Conflicting
Families Have an Option - Angel House Local family law attorney expands family
service offering supervised visitation and neutral exchange services at the Katy office so that children and parents in conflict
can maintain their relationship in a safe environment. Supervised visitation and neutral exchange facilities are essential
in high conflict divorces and in families with history of domestic violence and abuse, allowing courts to balance the rights
of parents to parent their children, children’s needs in maintaining a relationship with each parent, and child and parent
safety. Now families in Katy and surrounding areas have access to Angel House, which
now offers services every Saturday and Sunday, and through the week by appointment. Angel House
is located at 1721 East Avenue, Katy Texas 77493,
telephone 281-392-5525. It is a converted home, and the staff works to maintain a
homey feel. In addition to a large shady back yard for outside play, the facility
has a large playroom for group or multi family supervised visits and several smaller rooms for private supervised visits. Off site supervised visits are also available; and there are many child friendly options
nearby, such as Mary Jo Peckam Park, Katy City
Park, and Katy Library. Angel House
staff works hard to maintain safety and security, while making parents and children feel welcome and comfortable. The staff strives to provide full security and documentation without making the visiting parent feel demeaned
or alienated. Counseling services are also available during supervised visitation. Crafts, toys, snacks, and other activities are available for the children and parents to
enjoy. Staff is experienced in childcare, law enforcement or other legal profession,
psychology, or social work and has an additional 40 hours of training. Neutral exchange services allow highly conflicting
parents to exchange children at a neutral location without ever seeing each other. Exchanges
are also documented. Documentation at exchange and during supervised visits is very
important to maintain security and safety of children, to protect the visiting parent from false allegations, and to relieve
fears of the other parent. Staff is trained to remain neutral and not take sides,
and to maintain complete and accurate documentation. Audio and video recording of
visits and exchanges is also available. In addition, Angel House offers other services,
including monitored telephone contact, theraputic visits, audo and video recording, theraputic visits, family mediation, and
parent coordination. Angel House staff receives extensive training (over 40 hours) and
are required to have current first aid and CPR certification. Angel House is privately run by R Anaicka Ortiz, a local family law attorney,
and is a member of Supervised Visitation Network, Texas Supervised Visitation Network, and several foundations and organizations
that address family violence and child abuse issues. Court order or signed agreement
by the parties is required for application of services. Once accepted, parties must
all go through orientation then follow the rules and procedures to remain in the program.
Angel House charges a fee for services on sliding scale that is offered here for download. However, call and confirm
that forms and fees have not changed. Volunteers are needed to assist with non-supervisory
activities. All volunteers and staff must submit to a background check.

are distressed when separated from a parent if they are attached, showing protest, despair, and detachment. In divorce,
one parent usually has primary custody, and the child is more or less separated from the other parent. Children fear being abandoned by the noncustodial parent. Often
the noncustodial parent decreases contact over time. Children may feel rejected
or forgotten. Often children will interpret the loss as their fault, even if
the parent was abusive. By arranging contact in a safe setting, the child can
come to terms with the abusive parent and hopefully avoid repeating the cycle. When are supervised visitation services used:
CPS involvement – foster and adoption care Family
Violence – required in Texas Family Code Substance Abuse Cases Other For more information check NYSPCC Professionals’ Handbook on Providing Supervised Visitation, New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, By Anne Reiniger,
MSW, JD, Executive Director, 2000 NYSPCC Next Article will address age appropriate activities
during visits.
